The grantee designed training and materials to support safety training for workers and employers in small shipyard sub-contractors at the four Master Ship Repair yards in the San Diego area. Training materials include PowerPoint presentations, handouts and tests in English and Spanish.

 

Implementing a Shipyard Safety & Health Management System - Port of San Diego Ship Repair Association (2008, SH-17817-08)

The grantee developed safety and health management systems training materials tailored to shipyard subcontractors. Training materials include an instructor manual, student manual and PowerPoint presentations in English and Spanish.

 

Safe Shipyard Practices - Port of San Diego Ship Repair Association (2010, SH-20859-10)

The grantee implemented a Shipyard Training Center to support ongoing safety training for small shipyard sub-contractors at the four Master Ship Repair yards in the San Diego area. Training centered around safe shipyard practices and topics included achieving a company safety culture and the role of the supervisor in safety. Training materials consist of two PowerPoint presentations.

 

Shipbreaking Safety and Health Hazards - National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (2008, SH-17820-08)

The grantee conducted shipbreaking safety and health training at maritime installations in Brownsville, Texas. Training targeted workers, supervisors and managers in the shipbreaking industry. Training materials include PowerPoint presentations in English and Spanish.

 

Sprains, Sprains, & Pains: Ergonomic Injury Prevention for Commercial Fishermen - Alaska Marine Safety Education Association (AMSEA) (2012, SH-23641-12)

The grantee provided ergonomic hazards training to workers on commercial fishing vessels. Topics included assessing ergonomic hazards on deck and redesigning and retrofitting vessel deck space for improved ergonomics. The target audience are workers in the high hazard and high fatality industry of commercial fishing. Training materials include PowerPoint presentations and pocket guides in English. Some materials are also available in Vietnamese.
